2019 MLB Season Win Totals Predictions

I really like checking in on Major League Baseball season win totals as spring training is getting rolling. It serves a couple of functions. To begin with, it is a good opportunity to think about each and every team and receive a sense of both what your expectations are and what the gambling public is believing. Secondly, and more important, it is a fantastic exercise . By checking back in August or so, you can remind yourself just how small you really can know about a team before they’ve played and how fast things can change. Some of the teams will perform as we will expect them to. But others will probably be far off those numbers that they’ll be nearly unrecognizable. Here’s a look at all of the numbers set at BetOnline right today:

Arizona – over/under 74.5: This is only one of several teams on this list which seems to keep coming near relevance but really struggles to get over the hump. And that just is not going to be their year. I like the above, but because I like them to win about 78 games, not because I like them to be great.
Atlanta – o/u 86.5: I like the youth with this team, and they’ve done an adequate job of building on it. Odds would suggest that they are the third-best team from the NL East. But when I had to choose 1 team to win it, this could be it. It might just be sentimentality, but I enjoy what they have going on. I enjoy the above.
Baltimore – o/u 59.5: How pitiful is it that the smallest number on the plank isn’t nearly low enough. This is going to be a horrifyingly poor group. Just awful. The below is solidly favored at -125, but at this price it is the right play.
Boston – o/u 94.5: ” I was convinced early on that the Red Sox will win the AL East. But as things have gone , I have changed my mind and believe they will finish second behind the Yankees. I see 95 wins, so there isn’t any value in this number. I would take over if I needed to.
Chicago Cubs – o/u 88.5: At this stage, I think among 3 groups is going to win the NL Central, and they are going to take action with a win total somewhere in the low 90s. The issue, however, is I can’t decide which group it’ll be. I like things about all three – Milwaukee less than others. The Cubs should bounce back into a disappointing ending to an often-disappointing season, so I lean over.
Chicago White Sox – o/u 74.5: I’m disappointed that the White Sox couldn’t get any traction with the large free agents, since I like the upside here. They have been bad for a long time, but they’ve done a fantastic job of rebuilding the proper way. I don’t believe they will contend or anything, but I enjoy the above here.
Cincinnati – o/u 79.5: I’m watching Reds drama in Chicago this summer, so I would really like to allow them to be decent. It would result in a better game. Butunfortunately, this feels like a generous amount. Like, five or even six wins ample in my eyes. I will all over the below here.
Cleveland – o/u 90.5: There are 13 men who have been on the roster at the end of last year who aren’t now. Stunning turnover. However they’ve talent still, and the Central is a mess so that they receive a boost out of that. In any other branch I’d lean beneath, but I lean over.
Colorado – o/u 84.5: Last year this team was a pleasant surprise. There are few things tougher than following up a season like that. But I love that they stepped up for Nolan Arenado, and have reasonable faith in the young pitchers. I’m going over.
Detroit – o/u 68.5: When is the last time it felt like the Tigers needed a strategy? It has been too long, and right now they appear to be just plain water. They aren’t any good and do not appear to be moving towards respectability with any urgency. I hate where this team is right now. Very simple beneath.
Houston – o/u 96.5: This is a major number. Scary big. However, the Astros are my choice to win it all this year, and there’s so much explosiveness with this group. I need to go over – if I like it or not.
Kansas City – o/u 69.5: The Royals show just how hard building a team is out of a massive market. They gradually assembled, had their achievement, and they are only awful again – and it is going to have a long while before that changes. Easy under.
